Goofy funness..

It's really simple and kind of fruity.

....but you're right, I'm smiling right now. :)

think - YMCA

Good job.

Iam trying to evolve and Iam hoping iam on the right way :)

I'm likin' it.

The laid-back "triplet" feel is really nice. The main theme itself could be reworked a little overall or maybe in the end section to add interest; it's nice but maybe have it go out more than just "noodling" around it's one note. I think it could also benefit by emphasizing the compound meter (triplet 6/8 stuff) you've chosen.

It sure caught my attention! I like.

I like.

It loops pretty perfectly for me. I really like it.

Good for you on making your own sounds. I think you're right to some extent that people rely too much on preset patches; they push a key down and think they're Mozart when all the real work was done by someone else.

But I wouldn't be too hard on people who use presets. What counts for me in the end is what they do with the sounds; how they're organized and used. To go back to Mozart - I think it would be silly to criticize Wolfgang for writing a flute concerto just because he didn't invent the flute.

Great loop!

Fix loop.

Not too bad. I think it would work well as background music to something if you toned down the heavy beat, smoothed out some of the cuts to different sections (ex. from the low/mid section to high sparkly stuff), and of course - fix the loop so it doesn't sound like a speed bump.

Really dig the choir. Wish I had good choir sounds. What equipment you using for them?

themeatiscoming responds:

Yea I admit it still needs some work.

I use Magix Music Maker 11.

I need to throw into sound booth to fix highs and mids , and I agree I do need to fix the loop a bit.

thanks for the helpful critique

Nice.

There's a decided lack of this type of music on NG, so Kudos for putting it up here.

There's a lot that I like about it, but I think I'll stick to what, I think, could be improved:

1) No discernible melody or theme - I think you were stressing so much about the harmony on this that you maybe forgot that harmony's main purpose is to support melody. I think as it is right now it serves as nice musical "wallpaper", but don't expect anyone to be singing it to themselves later as they're shopping for groceries.

2) Nothing happens - There are no great changes in the orchestration to help bring variety to the sound. The strings are very prominent throughout. Try an extended section with just the woodwinds. There's maybe a little of this but not nearly enough to maintain my interest.

3) Harmonic Direction - The harmonies are very interesting. They don't really follow a traditional progression (which I think comes from you working more intuitively rather than by the book). But because of this there's no real direction: I've sat and listened to it about 5 times as I've been writing this now and I feel like I'm in a haze; I don't know at any one point if I'm hearing the beginning, middle or end of the piece. This will get better the more you write and the more you learn about theory (assuming you're reading up on it). But in all you're doing pretty good with just your intuition.

Ultimately that's the most important thing - intuition. Good, original music doesn't write itself. I think you've got it.

Good job. Keep it up!

Wow. God bless you highest for this review. This is the kind of review I love. Enough criticism both positive and negative. I will use this review to learn more in my future projects. I would love to review your own works but I am in a situation now in which it is impossible.

-thnx

Good for general MIDI sounds.

It's pretty nice. The piano comp rhythm stays pretty constant; maybe you could vary it a little bit to add variety and interest to the background. I like it.

evil-genius20 responds:

thanks for the review. maybe i will try something like that to see what it sounds like

Harmonica...ballsy. Nice.

I was once in a beginning composition class in a university where one of the students was devastated the teacher didn't like her composition. The professor said to her, "I'm sorry but it doesn't matter how much time you put into your piece or how much you like it - that doesn't make it good. It is what it is."

That said, not too bad. The harmonica at the beginning reminds me of some stuff off of Y's Books I&II for the TurboDuo (download available for the Wii now). It kind of drops out in the middle; that could've been handled better I think. But not bad. Good job.

wherethingsgobang responds:

thanks 4 da review ^_^
yesh that dropping out in the middle isnt meant to happen - it will be fixed asap! :O

EDIT: my software has died :'(
i cant fix it D:

Solid.

I like how it gets more symphonic in the middle after the electronic beginning. Loops nicely too! Good job.

hopeku responds:

hehe thanks :)

Fun

Not too bad. Blues riff, right? It almost works as a loop. Need to shave a millisecond or two of the ends though. But honestly - after hearing it loop five times +, gets tiring real quick. But like I said, not too shabby.

Mellow...I Like it

I feel like this would be a perfect track on one of those relaxing games you download on the 360 (can't remember any of their names right now). Anyway - good job!

I'm a graduate student in composition attending school and working in Utah. While I can talk fairly intelligently about the music of Stravinsky and Bartok; Oakenfold, Prodigy, and others are really what get my heart pumping.
